More info
Pinte Besson boasts a vaulted ceiling, stained glass windows and historical pictures. Regulars and visitors like to come to Lausanne’s oldest restaurant for a treat. The restaurant’s specialty is traditional cheese fondue, which comes as moitié-moitié or flavoured with morels and brandy. But you can also order traditional dishes such as rösti and croûte au fromage. Meat lovers are likely to choose a steak or seasonal suggestions: game in autumn, cabbage sausage with Papet Vaudois in winter. In summer, sip a drink on the nice little terrace and enjoy the sun and the lively atmosphere of this busy street.
This establishment has been awarded the “ Café historique de Lausanne ” label established by the city of Lausanne in 2021. The ultimate historical establishment located at the Rue de l’Ale, originating in the 18th century. The quintessence of the “pinte vaudoise” (Vaud bar) as a licensed drinking establishment. Iconic by its age as well as because of the fight to preserve it. Converted to a café around 1900. Has remained pretty much the same except for the addition of the bar. Pleasant room on the first floor.
