There’s not a shred of doubt about it: we’re heading straight into winter! We see it as the days are getting colder and as we catch a glimpse of snow-capped mountains in the distance from Ouchy. With this almost wintery atmosphere, we’re already daydreaming of crazy after-skis, typical chalets, sooo light meals based on delish melted Swiss cheese and, most of all, a cocooning ambiance around the fireplace. And what if we told you that some Lausanne spots have bent over backwards to let us live that dream? We’re off on a discovery of those pop-up places that plunge us into an Alpine world in the heart of Lausanne.

1. The Vieux-Lausanne’s Chalet Hydda

From December to February

WARNING! Uber cosy décor in sight. To make the most of it, we’re heading to the Vieux-Lausanne’s terrace, transformed into a proper chalet for the season. There’s chimney heating and a wooded atmosphere like in a genuine high-pasture chalet, and even the unmistakable red and white gingham curtains. Perfect to savour a “moitié-moitié” fondue, a tasty raclette or a legendary Vacherin Mont D’Or in the traditional spirit!

2. The Café du Grütli’s gondolas

From November 15

The now famous Café du Grütli’s gondolas are back! Because savouring a delicious fondue in the privacy of one of the 3 installations has become one of the winter’s must-dos in Lausanne. We’ll even give in to the temptation of a meringue with double cream for dessert. Our tip: remember to book!

3. The Royal Savoy’s Après Sky

From November 1st

The Royal Savoy’s famous rooftop has donned its winter look to welcome you in a hushed and cocooning setting. One thing hasn’t changed for sure: the panoramic 360-degree view that we’ll never tire of. You can even spot snow-capped mountains for a total immersion in the chalet chic ambiance we love! As for the menu, we think we’ll go for a fondue, rösti or a winter salad.

4. The SwissTech Village Chalet

From November 11 to December 20

Let’s head to SwissTech Village Square, at the M1 “EPFL” metro stop, to immerse ourselves in the cosy atmosphere of the SwissTech Village Chalets. Enjoy an iconic cheese fondue or share an apéro of mulled wine with a snack board in a winter spirit! The Chalets offer more than just delish dishes. Free activities add a special touch, with fairy tales for children every Wednesday at 5 pm and live music on Thursday evenings.

5. Bô Noël’s igloo

From November 20 to December 31

The countdown to Christmas has started and Bô Noël is quite set on indulging us to help us wait until the eagerly awaited moment! To enjoy the cosy and friendly atmosphere that we crave, we’re heading to the igloo at Place de l’Europe. What with unctuous fondues and delectable snack boards, you’ll find just what you need to please both your eyes and your taste buds.
