Heads up to all amateur and professional dancers, Lausanne is bursting with opportunities to learn, perform and create through movement. Renowned events form an integral part of the city’s cultural heritage. Here’s a glimpse of what awaits you in 2023!

Prix de Lausanne’s 50th anniversary

The Prix de Lausanne, considered one of the most prestigious classical dance awards, is celebrating its 50th anniversary! The event’s vocation is to support dancing, giving young people aged 15 to 18 the opportunity to be spotted by an excellence jury. For all amateurs, the event is open to the public, so do take note that the 2023 edition will take place from January 29 to February 5, 2023, at the Théâtre de Beaulieu. For the curious, additional events and exhibitions will take place across the city to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this excellence award.

Les Printemps de Sévelin (“Sevelin Springtimes”)

Les Printemps de Sévelin is a festival that gives everyone the opportunity to dive into the world of contemporary dancing. It’s the chance to discover this discipline’s variety through tableaux that transcribe the emotion of renowned choreographers from the contemporary scene, both national and international. The epicentre of the performances is the Théâtre Sévelin 36, that defines itself as a place that supports contemporary dancing by offering classes and workshops all year round. Mark your calendar, the festival will take place from March 7 to 26, 2023!

Fête de la Danse (“Dance Festival”)

In May, from May 10 to 14, 2023, the whole city of Lausanne will be dancing during the Dance Festival. All styles will be celebrated to show the scope of this discipline. Dance schools and institutions come together, making it a participatory event by offering the public performances and introductory classes for dances such as samba, disco, classical, hip-hop and contemporary.

Les Urbaines (“The Urban”)

To finish the year on a high, every beginning of December, the Festival des Urbaines (“Urban Festival”) takes over Lausanne’s cultural venues. The concept is novel: to celebrate the emergence of alternative artistic movements – and dancing isn’t left out! An opportunity to dive into the creative sphere of artists and discover the sensibility that radiates from these new aesthetic forms.
