It’s not as well known as the Indian summer or the Northern winter, yet springtime in Lausanne also exists. Yes, the warmer days are back and, with them, seasonal activities.
Getting active outdoors
Nothing could be easier: a pair of shorts, a pair of trainers and the lakeside. Once on the water’s edge and warming in the sun, you’re spoilt for choice: jogging, cycling, skateboarding or roller-skating, playing football or volleyball. It’s about time, as your unused gym membership (the last remains of a New Year resolution) was starting to make you feel guilty. Now, at last, you have a good reason not to go to the gym: the sun!
And you don’t even need to dedicate a particular time during the week to exercise, you can simply get on your bike to move around.
Strolling in a park
Temperatures are rising, trees are blossoming in the sun, people are adorning their balconies with flowers, and after this long winter, we just want to enjoy the lovely weather as we wander the streets and stroll in the parks. In Mon-Repos Park, Hermitage Park, Milan Park or Elysée Park, there are fab walks to go on in Lausanne.
To go out walking, however, the proper attire is needed…
Going shopping
At last, we can put away our unflattering puffer coats, our cumbersome thick woolly jumpers, woolly hats and scarves. It’s time to get out a pair of shorts and possibly even renew our wardrobe thanks to local creators.
For ladies, head to JSBG Store and its selection of Swiss designer brands, or to Viva Frida (accessories, decorative objects and trendy clothes).

Enjoying the sun (and a drink) on a terrace
Shopping, however, is quite tiring. Our best remedy for this is to take a break on a terrace. And the good thing is that with the sunny days, pop-up bars are reopening until autumn.
Right by the lake, the place to be is undoubtedly La Jetée de la Compagnie with its breathtaking view over the lake. And if it’s the lake view you’re after, Le Lacustre is another essential spot for summer days.

Eating and sunning
The return of sunshine also marks the return of barbeques and picnics. In Lausanne, there are plenty of spots for a picnic (article in French). Are you already picturing that ice cream at the Esplanade de Montbenon? That’s good, as the foody season also starts in spring with the unveiling of the Lausanne à Table programme. Yet again this year, there will be something yummy for every taste from April to December.
