Winter has finally arrived, and with it the ice-skating season is officially under way! And skating fans can rejoice, as Lausanne has a number of ice rinks that will appeal to all enthusiasts, from novices to the most experienced. Whether you’re a figure skating fan, a hockey player or simply want to have some fun with friends or family before fondue time, Lausanne’s ice rinks are there to welcome you all winter long. Here are the addresses you won’t want to miss: on your blades, get set, go!
1. The Vaudoise aréna ice rinks
In the Malley district, this multi-sports complex has become a must in Lausanne, offering a host of activities in winter and summer alike. Figure or synchronised skating, short-track, ice hockey and broomball: professionals and amateurs alike flock to the thick white ice. With its three ice rinks – two indoor, one outdoor – the snow arena has a veritable Ice Centre.
The Vaudoise arena is also the home of Lausanne Hockey Club (LHC) and several other local hockey, skating and ice sports clubs. The main arena – with a capacity of 9600 spectators – is equipped for international competitions, and in fact hosted the Youth Olympic Games in 2020.
The second indoor skating rink, designed more for clubs, is called “Cooly”. Finally, ‘Yodli’, the outdoor rink, is open to the general public and schools.
